Bye Bye Butterflies

Although we could have kept them a few more days, we (well I) decided to let our butterflies go free today during our playgroup. We invited our friends over, played Caleb's butterfly game, read a book about butterflies and then took them outside and let them go:







Caleb is really funny about repeating things we read in books. A few days ago, a friend of mine from college was visiting and we were showing her the caterpillars. Caleb told her, "They're going to be butterflies and then we'll let them go and we'll be a little sad and a little happy" - which is almost a direct quote from the butterfly book we read. And it is a little of both - I was happy to see them able to fly at last, but it was kind of nice to have them close enough to look at and watch them drink with their proboscis. This will definitely be a project we will want to revisit when the kids are older. I got much more out of it than Caleb did! Also my friends (Caleb's friends' moms) were very interested in hearing about how they changed and grew.
