The other night I had just turned off my bedside lamp when I heard a "whump" on the window (our bedroom is on the 2nd floor). Here is the culprit:

The pictures are not too good - the flash on Rob's cell seemed to bother the frog, definitely the biggest tree frog I've ever seen - the body was at least 4 inches long and the legs, whew, it must have been a foot from end to end.

And it's land crab season:

"You messin' with me?"
These things would be funny if they didn't have a giant claw on one side! We are overrun with them this time of the year and there are smashed crabs all over the road.We always have a lot of bugs, but summer is just extra buggy - the kids caught two millipedes (they don't bite or sting). Caleb decided that his was a boy and Annalise's was a girl. We made a little millipede habitat, but the next day one died (obviously the girl, said Caleb) - so we decided to find out online how to determine the gender of your millipede. Turned out to be pretty easy (the boys are missing one set of legs), our live millipede was a girl.
Annalise took over the care and feeding of the critter - particularly the care and I'm not sure if it was the cuddling or the ride on the Little People horse, but she loved the poor thing to death.
Wow, I never knew that about the crabs. Weird! Thanks for the lesson on millipedes, too.
ReplyDeleteLOL... loved it to death! The girl prevailed
ReplyDeleteI'd say you're in training for Jeopardy. I think you'd do well especially in the science areas ;-)
