Conversations with Kids

I started keeping a little mini-journal of funny things the kids say and it is really a treat to read back over them after a while! Caleb likes for me to read them to him and he also tries to say things that he thinks I will write in it. He says things that are nonsensical, but funny to him, like "Trains can fly.", but I never write those things, I told him, the things I write down will be the things he doesn't realize are funny. So in short, here are a few entries - and he would be pleased to know that most of them are from him:

One day we were reading the little book and I read an entry where Annalise mispronounced the word "privacy" (saying pi-a-see) - Caleb thought that was hilarious and said, "She doesn't know it's Pi-rat-see!"

Annalise, the budding entomologist: "Look! A COOL bug!" **STOMP**

Caleb, the budding patriot: "Me and Annalise sure do love the USA!"

Annalise (pointing to the 'N' on her shoe): What dis letter, Mama?"
Me: It's an N and it stands for "New Balance"
Annalise: It not "New Balance"! It for "NEW BABY!"

Caleb: Mommy, count to a million.

Caleb: I made friends with little girl at VBS today.
Me: That's good, what's her name?
Caleb: I don't know her name. When you first become friends with someone you don't know their name!

The topic du jour was "Why Mako cannot drive a car", Caleb's reasoning: Mako can't drive a car because he doesn't have invisible thumbs!"

Caleb: Throw graffiti up in the air! (sometimes this also comes out as "grafetti")

Caleb: When will Natalie be 65 years old?
Me: In 65 years.
Caleb: She is going to be the shortest grown up ever!

Caleb: The couch cushions look like giant brownies to me and Annalise.

  1. I kept a similar journal when my kids were younger. You have to or you'll forget the things you're just sure you'll never forget!

  2. Don't know if you saw the Caleb-inspired "What I learned from a 4-year-old" post? Kids certainly provide lots of material and smiles!

  3. I did see the post :) but forgot to show it to him, he would be pleased to know you featured his quotes too!

And Lori, my memory is so bad I have to write things down right away or I won't remember them at bedtime, sometimes they say something I think I'll remember and 10 minutes later I can't remember what they said.
