Crop Circles

Ok, before I get to the pictures, let me offer some reasonable excuses.

1. Rob's been very very busy.
2. Our car a/c (more important) was broken and Rob fixed it.
3. Our roof leaked (even more important) and Rob fixed it.
4. Although our backyard is small, we only had an electric weed whacker that has to be hand adjusted every 3-5 minutes.

Let's just say we haven't mowed in quite some time. But in the last 5 days Rob aquired a used lawn mower and engaged the backyard in hand to hand combat. Here are the pictures to prove it:

I really don't think this photo does the yard justice - the grass was easily 3 feet tall.

During... (just FYI, the variation in fence color shows where the fence fell down during Hurricane Wilma)

This picture shows what Rob was able to accomplish before the mower ran out of gas. It would look like a crop circle if it wasn't so heart shaped!

The "after" picture - the grass is really brown because (not unlike the floor of the rainforest) it has been shaded by the top growth. Although there have been several pythons found around South Florida, and obviously our yard was an ideal habitat, Rob said he only found a frisbee, broken bits of glass, a colony of palmetto bugs, and a toad "as large as a football".

  1. So I guess Caleb hasn't been playing outside much, huh? :)

  2. So did you find Caleb after the lawn was mowed or was he still under the cut grass somewhere?

  3. Actually, we aren't sure what to do about Caleb playing in the backyard. Even when the grass is short, it isn't an ideal play-yard. There are lots of broken glass bits, broken tile pieces, and rusty nails in the topsoil. We're not sure if it's construction debris or leftover hurricane damage. (Our house survived Hurricane Andrew in 1992.) So before we think about his playing back there, we think we'll have to do something more drastic than mow.
