Our Littlest Marine Enthusiast

"Don't eat it!"

We got back today from a week in Ft. Myers Beach with my parents and brother. While we were there we had no internet access, which was interesting because it really showed us how dependent we have become on it. We didn't do enough pre-trip research, so we had a hard time finding outings - in spite of us having lived there in 2008. We tried to hit the beach either early or late (the sun was relentless) and founds lots of sea creatures to examine. A few yards from the shore, the sea floor was just carpeted with sand dollars. We also found several live conchs and whelks, a couple of hermit crabs, and a four-legged starfish (pictured above).

That silhouette in the sunset is Caleb.

Ready to hit the waves:

Fishing with Grandpa:

Several evenings at sunset we were on the beach or pier and we saw a pirate ship cruise sailing around the island. It always fired a cannon a couple of times. I didn't notice Annalise having any interest in it until she drew this:I really like her Jolly Roger! The drawing on the right is someone fishing off the pier. Her drawing has improved a lot - if I hadn't watched her draw this, I would have guessed Caleb did it.

  4. We did have a really nice time - April, I should have explained, it is a 5 legged starfish with 1 leg broken off. Rob said it was called a Brittle Starfish. I think the leg will grow back eventually.
