We had these cups as long as I can remember. I *think* we used the green one to scoop ice.
Honestly, I enjoyed seeing the kids drink from them, more than they enjoyed drinking from them!
The kids and I went out to the barn. The barn is an interesting memory for me because a lot of the time I spent there, I was alone (except for my horse and pony). Before the barn was ours, it had been owned (or at least used) by a couple that competed in horse shows. They kept their horses shod (we generally did not) and these shoes have been hanging in the barn since their time.
The shoes hang on a wire window to the tack room, there were 2 or 3 saddle racks and hooks to hang bridles and a shelf for brushes and such. While we were exploring I found my old hoof pick.
This nail and chain seemed especially memorable to me - you can see that not all the links are equal, some of them fit over the nail better than others. It holds the feed room door closed and I used it a lot, so I had links I liked better than others.
When I was a kid, the barn had 3 stalls, now it only has one because the wall between the other two was removed to make a shed for the tractor. I liked the stalls because they seemed very horse-ish and I liked horse-ish things, but I only used them when I was playing with my horse or my pony. They really never needed the stall, if the weather was bad they could just stand in the middle of the barn. Anyway, I showed the kids the stall and pointed out the hay manger, which was attached high on the back wall - "just like what baby Jesus slept in!" declared Caleb. And I started to say no, but then who am I to know if his was attached to a wall or not!
