Playing with Matches

On the last leg of the "to" part of our Christmas trip, Rob suggested to Caleb that they make a "bonfire". Caleb has no idea what a "bonfire" is, so a campfire sized blaze more than satisfied him! I hope that instead of encouraging our kids to experiment with matches, it showed them how to make a fire safely. It certainly warmed us up outside!

For the first fire, my dad gave them some firewood as a base and Rob and Caleb collected sticks and pine cones to satisfy that "Hunter-Gatherer" instinct.

Adding fuel to the flames:

I liked how the damp sticks started spewing steam? smoke? I don't know, it looked cool.

A second fire was made with pinestraw:

Rob stirred the fire with a rake and whoosh! Up came a tower of flames and sparks! Very dramatic! And Caleb's craving for a bonfire was quenched!
