Caleb and I discovered this chrysalis while we were digging around the front garden today. I think it is a queen butterfly and as you can see, it is almost ready to come out, you can only see through the chrysalis for a day or so before the butterfly comes out...or you know it's a dud.

The plant this chrysalis is attached to is a ground orchid. I got these from my friend Nina along with all the bromeliads. None of mine have bloomed, but when they do, they have a pretty purple flower.

We also found this little sprout. It's a
snake plant and somehow it jumped over the divider between the neighbor's front yard and ours; they have a lot of them. I have wanted to plant some, so I'm glad it's there.

This butterfly visited our yard a day or two ago. It is a skipper and except that it was flying in the daytime, I would have thought it was a moth. There are 3 families of butterflies, so it is not the same kind of butterfly that the monarchs and queens are. There are tons of skippers, but I think this one is a
Dorantes Longtail.

I liked this very prickly picture of a bromeliad. Nina gave me so many different kinds of bromeliads and they are all having "pups".

And have you ever seen a basil flower? If not, now you have!
It is amazing how similar the queen butterfly's chrysalis is to the monarch's. You can definitely see its spotted wings, though. Very cool.
