I am really surprised I haven't posted this book before. It has been a favorite of mind since I taught 1st grade - waaaaaay back in B.C. (Before Caleb). The Web Files by Margie Palatini is a funny little book about a duck who is a detective. The whole book is done in a Dragnet theme, complete with the DUM DE DUM DUM. Ducktective Web must find a thief who has hit several farm homes in one morning. The book is filled with references to nursery rhymes, cleverly placed homonyms, and alliteration - I find myself wondering how Palatini pulled together so many good ideas into one book without it seeming overdone. We have another book if hers, Moostache, and it is cute, but I would have liked it more if I had not read The Web Files first.
This book is ours, not a library book, which is good because I would hate to give it back!
We've read Moosestache but not this one. Will have to check it out some time.
