I met with the new doctor today to talk with him about attempting a VBAC. I was pretty nervous about switching gears so late in the game, prenatal appointments are usually pretty cheerful things - you get to know the office staff and they start looking forward to seeing your baby. I was happy to find that the nurse seemed to be a happy, chatty person and seemed to have a good relationship with the doctor. The office is a practice of several doctors - 7 or more I think, so I will meet with one doctor and at least one of the team is at the hospital at all times - 24/7.
I was glad to hear that my new doctor really thinks a lot of Clarissa - actually I'm finding that she has a really good reputation with everyone I talk to in the medical community. The doctor seemed pretty relaxed about my trying for a VBAC and said that their preference is that I go into labor spontaneously. If I go past 41 weeks, they will reassess the situation and either induce me or schedule a c-section. He said that statistically there is a .5 - .7% chance of uterine rupture without induction and about 1% chance with induction. (There is a chance of rupture with no prior scar, but it's either .5% or less, I can' t find a source on that right now.)
It's funny to me how for some people .5-.7% is .5-.7% chance of rupture and for others it's 99.3-99.5% chance of everything being just fine. There are risks with repeat c-sections too.
Well anyway, the hospital I will go to is the most well equipped for emergencies in this part of Florida. So for now, I'm going to start going to my weekly prenatal appointments with this new doctor and just wait to go into labor.
