Welcome again to my resolution inspired post! We are warming up again after a few days of Florida cold. I know Florida cold is nothing compared to regular cold, but we were cold - as in hot chocolate and mittens.
Our temperatures dipped into the 40s at night for about 3 days, which is enough to make large reptiles immobile. We found a dead looking iguana just off the sidewalk. It certainly acted dead, but it looked perfect. So I'm not sure if it was dead or just cold. I did not see this, but it is widely rumored here that when it gets cold enough iguanas will just fall out of trees. We have a lot of bumpy, bulgy, large iguanas in our neighborhood and I'd hate to have one fall on my head!
Here are my tomatoes a few days ago - they are bigger now. I had to bring them inside several nights last week and even kept them inside most of one day. I have been moving them to keep them in the sun and I think they are growing well. I got a marigold to keep with them to discourage pests.
Natalie had a pretty big accomplishment - she learned to ride a bike without training wheels! She didn't have a bike the right size (and that's not what she was asking for for Christmas, so that's not what she got!) but I found a good sized one at Goodwill and within 15 minutes after I took it out of the van, she was riding nicely. It is true what they say - where there's a will, there's a way!
Caleb caught this beautiful Midas Cichlid in a canal.
Our enrichment co-op resumes this week. I think I am 100% ready for the China class and I am getting closer on Lewis and Clark. Because we are making a video, I want to have a very clear plan. What I have found is that when you consider depth, you could really study Lewis and Clark for as little as an hour or get carried away and spend years reading about the trip. I do have an outline for the whole semester, but I don't know how efficient we will be in real time, so for this week I am planning to just cover the Louisiana Purchase and make a video that will involve some lucky student dressing up as Thomas Jefferson. Fortunately Annalise is in the class and she eats up this kind of thing, so I know I can count on her to step in if no one else will!
