Today was my due date and our little Irene is 4 days old - so a blog post is slightly overdue! In my own defense, it is only today that sitting at our computer desk isn't painful.
Here are the stats:
Irene Olivia, 6lbs 4oz - 19.25 inches long. Born at 12:10. The surgery started at 12:01. It took 50 minutes to sew me up. Personally, I am thrilled about that. My friend who is a labor and delivery nurse said that means they were very careful. I am all about being carefully sewn up!
Isn't she a doll!
The nurse who prepped me for surgery made the baby caps with these adorable bows. I think all the babies born in the OR that morning were girls.
We spent all of Tuesday and Wednesday in the hospital. Wednesday afternoon was kind of a waste because it was all waiting to get discharged. I was so incredibly bored I took a shower in the afternoon and the discharge doctor stopped by while I was in the shower and said she would come back and never came back! My nurse was incredulous and made several calls on our behalf to get the discharge about 7:30 that night.
Irene lost about 8oz in 2 days and - being so little to start out with - that was 8% of her body weight. The pediatrician recommended topping her off with formula until my milk came in. Had this been Caleb, I would have totally stressed over this, but perspective is such a blessing. I also thought her weight loss was concerning.
She had a check up today and has gained back 2oz. My milk is in and we've stopped the formula. Life is pretty full right now and I bounce back and forth between wanting every moment to last forever and being anxious to heal. More thought and pictures to come :)
Explain the name choice!
