A Happening

Since our "other" season has begun, we've been having lots of very pleasant weather.  Today the high was 78 and as I packed the kids up to run to Publix, I had a 2nd thought - let's walk instead.  They are doing major construction on the main road leading to our house and the best way to walk to Publix is temporarily off limits to cars with a brand new, super wide, perfectly flat sidewalk open for business.  They love to walk to walk that way and today didn't disappoint - we saw a dead cat, a dead frog, a live turtle, and a dead pigeon.

I had put my debit card and a $10 bill in my front pocket and my phone and keys in the stroller organizer.  We made it to Publix with no problem and browsed a bit while we got our very few items.  When we got to the checkout, I reached for my money and....it was gone!  I apologized to the checker, left my number with the guy at the service desk and we went out to retrace our steps.  It rained a little on us on our way, but I told the kids we had to push through it and go back as quickly as we could.  I figured if we found it, it would be closer to home rather than farther away because I had squatted down to fix the bottom of the stroller early in our walk.  We walked and walked.  The big kids were very concerned, but we reasoned that most people would probably not take the card and use it, even if most people would take the $10 and really our path was not high traffic plus it was raining.  We walked, it rained, I scanned the sidewalk and grass.  And suddenly I saw money - it was the $10 bill - still tri-folded like it had been around the card...but the card was not there.  We searched, and didn't find it.

When I called the bank, they said someone had tried to use the card, but it flagged as suspicious and did not go through.  They cancelled the card and are replacing it.  It is totally mysterious to me why they didn't find the money too?  Or did they drop it?  Regardless, I am thankful!
