Bountiful Harvest

I'm still learning the ins and outs of butterfly gardening, but I have successfully collected 10-15 mature seed pods and saved their seeds. Each pod has about 100 seeds in it, so I have TONS of milkweed seeds. I would be happy to share them with anyone who wants them! They are the red and orange flowering milkweed - the tropical variety - and if you want a long term butterfly garden, you might want to research what kind of milkweed grows best in your area. However, it grows fast and if you plant it now, even in pots, you might be able to see some butterfly life cycles up close and personal before it gets too cold for Monarchs. This kind of milkweed is pretty hearty. It had no problems with our unseasonably cold winter.

Let me know if you'd like me to mail you some seeds.

I've also had a bountiful harvest of Caleb's artwork, which has been in bloom lately. He took a break from being crafty, primarily, to dig in dirt for a while, but suddenly has rediscovered the art box. Here are a couple of "keepers":

This one is Annalise in the Rain. I am pretty sure it is inspired by the "kid umbrella" we found at a yard sale recently. I LOVE the single finger holding the umbrella!

This one really hit my soft spot - it's Caleb and me walking Mako (notice where the leash is attached?)

  1. Love the artwork! Glad you were able to get so many seeds! We just planted our "replacement" seeds. We got a much later start than I had planned since our first batch was blown away. Hopefully these will grow super fast!

  2. I love the drawings. I love your long, elegant neck in Caleb's picture. :) If you think the milkweed seed would grow here in Alabama, I'd love to try them out!

  3. Yea Lori! I hope your butterfly season is fruitful :)

And, Dana, I am sure they will grow there. They grow in Ohio! I think I have your address already.
