Collapsed Tower Cake

Rob's birthday is next weekend and he will be very busy with a tower move for the station, still we weren't really planning to celebrate this weekend because we had been invited to another birthday party. That party was cancelled, so we decided to celebrate this weekend. The kids and I had already decided to make a tower cake for Rob this year and I really wanted it to be 3-D, not flat. As Rob said, a flat tower cake would just look like a pier!

Missing an extra week of planning for a 3-D tower cake really hurt our cake though, I had already bought a dowel rod to support if internally, but that was all the planning I had done. The results...you shall see...
Finishing touches - note the look of discontent on my face - along with the looks of incredible glee on the Caleb's face, even though it was an ugly cake he loved it. He loved it because it was tall and that was the main thing. Annalise found my bowl cover and thought it looked just too much like a shower cap not to put on her head.

This is the *best* picture I have - I will say for posterity, I did not intend it to look at all like the Eiffel Tower, but even Caleb said, "It looks like that tower in the Remy movie! (Ratatouille)"

Gravity beginning to get the best of me.

The great collapse! Notice Annalise licking icing from the top of the dowel.

So we stuck a whole bunch of candles in the widest part and lit them all. Even though it was no where near the number that represents Rob's age, the heat it gave off was pretty incredible!

Helping Daddy blow the candles out.

We also went to Stir Moon for dinner. Caleb was very excited to order "Kid Sushi" - which had 4 pieces of California roll, 1 piece of shrimp sushi, 2 pieces of "Krab" sushi, one egg sushi, and a bowl of Miso soup. For being so excited, he only ate the miso soup and the California roll...and the orange garnish. I guess he was saving room for cake!
