Weed in a Pot

My front yard has been a major home improvement project over the last few months. I got several bromeliads, some philodendron, and a few ground orchids from my friend Nina's lush and tropical yard and I have moved them around trying to find the best place for them to grow in my long and narrow front space of dirt. It's not really a yard. It's not like I obsess over it, but I have worked it into our daily routine to work on it for 5-10 minutes while Caleb eats a popsicle and Annalise is asleep. Most of that work is weeding and it has a lot of incredibly deep-rooted, ugly, prickly weeds that I have pulled out. I also found a few interesting looking weeds that I was curious enough about to put in a pot:

So this is what it grew into - almost overnight, so a weed is definitely what it is. Anything you'd actually want in your garden doesn't grow that fast! Right? Well I don't know, because this weed has a sweet little yellow flower that peeks at the morning sun and then hides in the bright daylight. I kind of like it.

Otherwise, the bromeliads are looking well, the philodendron is trying to decide what to do and all the ground orchids seemed to die, but now all of them are growing new plants, which haven't bloomed yet but promise well, for now anyway, it's May and still very dry, I am not too eager to see what the torrential rain of June through October do to all my labors.

...

I'm also growing some herbs in pots. The basil is doing the best:

I also planted parsley and oregano.
