I say "for real" because I can't believe how many times I've threatened it to Caleb before, only I don't mean threaten as in something cruel, just made some weak attempt at it - thinking it was something that was just going to happen...which I guess eventually it would, or at least it might, without intervention, but for the moment, I doubt it.
Anyway, Rob announced recently that we'll need to stay here (Ft. Myers) for at least an extra month and I was putting off earnest potty training until we got back to our house - that way if he pees in our carpet, I won't feel quite as bad. But so far as I can tell Caleb is ready - he knows all the vocabulary, can stay dry for a while, isn't a potty-phobe, etc. So I decided it was time to jump ship, so to speak.
I poked around online and discovered the Potty Whisperer. And her ideas inspired me, not that I really thought I could do it in one day (which *technically* she claims to do, but it's WHOLLY reliant on the parents following up on her lesson), but I thought it would get us off to a good start. So today was our "booty camp". I picked out some tempting high sodium snacks and sugary drinks and we hit the ground running today. To some extent the snacks backfired on me, because, although he gets plenty of empty calories in his diet, Caleb usually has a wholesome breakfast and replacing it with junk food was exciting for him, but he didn't eat much, so he didn't drink as much as I expected him to, so he didn't have to peepee as much either.
Despite the excitement over Cheetos, he ate more black olives - which he has strung on his paintbrush in this picture. In short, today was a long day of wiping up the floor. But all is not a total loss, he has made vast improvement on putting on his pants. And hopefully I will persevere and we can make more strides tomorrow. Honestly, potty training brings out the tantrum prone toddler in me!
I feel for you. Hang in there and before you know it you'll be packing away the pull-ups and buying more Thomas undies!
