Seemingly Endless Notes from the Road

(Just after noon - central time, but we crossed into eastern as I blogged)

We're still heading east on I-10, Rob and I both agree that this is the longest, most boring part of the trip. The panhandle is not very exciting. But as usual, Rob found something out of the ordinary for us to do. He always seems to find unusual ways to get us a free lunch! Rob was channel surfing the radio and found a Way FM affiliate that was giving away hamburgers to celebrate their first day on the air.
It was in Marianna, Florida and we heard the announcement about 20 miles west of there, so we quickly mapped out the station address with Google Maps and showed up right on time for their free lunch! They even had Rob's favorite road snack - Boiled Peanuts! Not surprising to me, Rob found someone there who recognized him. We got to go back to the studio and the lady dj let Caleb talk on the air.

After lunch, Caleb DID NOT want to get back in the van! Actually, someone at Way FM gave Caleb a Focus on the Family DVD - some cartoon about frogs - which I was glad to see because the only DVD he's wanted to watch lately has been the Little People DVD (He calls them "Tiny People") and their theme song is about to drive me bananas.

Last night we stopped in Pensacola. I didn't encourage Caleb to sleep on the floor, but he lay down and fell asleep right in the middle of the room. Rob picked him up and moved him before we went to bed. Travelling with little kids sure is a challenge, but if you can keep from taking their complaints personally, it can be kind of funny ;)

  1. You mean you don't enjoy listening to Aaron Neville soulfully sing about discovering Eddie (or Sonya Lee or Sarah Lynn...)? :) Ron really hated that theme song, too.

  2. You know, it's one thing to listen to the theme song when you're actually watching the videos, but when the portable DVD player is strapped to the back of your seat it's pretty annoying ;)

He also watched Elf while we were driving and it's a different experience to only hear the audio of a movie. The scene where Buddy realizes he's not an elf has flashbacks of him doing everyday things in elf sized settings, which is funny, but the cackling jack-in-the-box really sounds scary by itself!
