Irene is doing very well with her potty training. As I've said before, it is not like potty training an older toddler. I take her to the bathroom every hour and we have many days that she has 100% success. Sometimes - but not often - she will tell me when she needs to go. How this works is that I have learned when she needs to go and she has learned the cues we give her. It is not exactly "Pavlovian", if she doesn't need to go, no amount of cuing will cue her up, but if she does, I guess you could say it is a conditioned response. I prefer to think of it like this: her mindset - about how that part of life is done - has been changed.
Potty training a baby is hard. It is a lot of work, but it is doable. I wouldn't recommend it to someone who is also caring for an infant. In our case it is better than diapering her because she did not like being changed. She is very strong (or I am very weak) and the effort of holding her in place 6, 7, 8 times a day drove me into potty training. She's made enough progress that we keep pressing forward.
