When I told Rob, he just said, "Yeah, I taught him how to do that." I know that once the baby is born, Caleb will have to suddenly stop being the baby. By then he'll be two and it's not like he'll be driving, but how can I carry two downstairs? Or simultaneously snap two into carseats? Caleb will have to opt for the big-boy option of waiting or doing for himself.
Actually he's making pretty good strides as doing for himself! He's learned how to open the pantry and knows where I keep the bag of gingersnaps. (Or he knew until I moved them!) He's learned how to take all (ALL) the cushions off the couch. He can throw a treat to Mako. He's even used the potty (with ample assistance!). He can take off his shirt if I help him with the first arm. If you ask him where Daddy works, the kid says, "Call!" I was watching him eat this morning and just felt amazed at how recently he sat helplessly in his bouncy seat.
Anyway, I thought this was funny: Caleb has a lot of books. I keep the board books down low so he can play with them when he wants, and the paper books up high so he doesn't destroy them. The board books are kept in a corndog box. Sometimes he points at the box and says "Dog!" and sometimes he points and says, "Corn!" He found another corndog box (a totally different brand) and looked it over, then he opened it and seemed disappointed, "Book!" he said. So he got some books and started filling up the corndog box with books...because that's where books belong. :)
