Baby Book Review: Shrek!

Lately, we've picked up a lot of William Steig books at the library. Having fond childhood memories of reading Sylvester and the Magic Pebble made me curious about the other books he'd written. What I didn't expect to find was that he wrote the book that inspired the movie Shrek.

I had to request it, but before we even got it, I thought, "It figures, Steig's books always seem to include talking donkeys!" And the donkey in the book Shrek is an important part of the plot. Shrek is a disgusting, green ogre who marries a princess, but that is basically the end of the similarities with the movie!

On the whole I did not like it as much as some of his other books. So far my favorite was Solomon the Rusty Nail. And I had to do a quick edit when Shrek calls the donkey a name, that really means donkey, but that is also an innappropriate word to teach your 3 year old.
